WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS

Our Mission Partners John and Jane Maire work with Wycliffe Bible
Translators in Switzerland. John heads up the Francophone work, helping
to create a CD ROM containing tools for translators. Jane is involved
with Prom' Alpha, a training programme for people wanting to do
translation work overseas.

Prom' alpha

Prom' alpha is a pioneer project for Francophone Europe to promote
literacy! A French-speaking team of six people, ages 23–37, from
France, Switzerland and Taiwan left on September 3, 2005 for two years
in Cameroon. They are working in literacy and Scripture use among the
Mambila and Kwanja peoples. The literacy rate in these two areas is
recorded at one percent, and economically the region has many
challenges. AIDS and alcoholism are two major threats. Morale is often
low. The Mambila New Testament was distributed several years ago, while
the Kwanja people will receive theirs early in 2006.

  • Pray for the team: Nathalie and Andreas (team leaders), David and
Irene, and Shu-Mei and Cornelia. Pray for healthy and harmonious team
    dynamics.
  • Pray for their health, safety and adjustment to Cameroon.
  • Pray for good contacts and collaboration with the Mambila and Kwanja people. Pray for inspiration in all their work.
  • Pray that their efforts to promote the use and knowledge of
the Bible will foster a local initiative which will continue after the
    team’s departure in two years.
  • Pray that more people in Francophone Europe will be interested in Wycliffe as a result of this project.
